How to Photograph Jewelry

When it comes to photographing jewelry, a lot of people may be intimidated by how small and shiny many of the pieces are. However, this type of photography can be fun, profitable, and super easy to pick up! Here is our quick jewelry photography guide:

Position is Key:

This means finding the right position for the speedlights and for the camera in relation to the jewelry. In terms of the speedlights, you want to find a location that increases the dimensionality of the piece. Ultimately, it is trial and error until you find the right spot! For the camera position, you want to figure out the most flattering angle and work from there. With adjustments here and there, these two aspects will come together and you’ll be on your way to a great photograph.

Keep it Simple:

Jewelry is a beautiful thing on its own and therefore you do not need something else to make your photo interesting. While color or wood backgrounds and props may be helpful for some photographs, they are not in this case. Keep things simple with a white background and a clean space. The white will reflect the light and benefit your photograph! No need to make it complex.

Always Stay Consistent:

Inconsistency is never a good thing, even when it comes to your jewelry images. When the photos change too often in relation to one another, it distracts the consumer and ultimately disengaging them from the product at hand. The solution is to choose one type of style for your photography and stick to those guidlines. The customers will be pleased by the appearance of the consistency and will be more likely to remain intrigued by the images at hand.
